“Girls” Captures the Simple Things

On Sunday nights episode of the HBO Series “Girls” the ending credits featured the song “Simple Things” by Miguel. I had heard the song before but I didn’t quite fall in love with it the way I did after I heard it this time.

The show closes with Hannah and Adam in a bathtub at a swanky hotel, a gift to Adam from Hannah, as a way to celebrate Adam landing a part in a Broadway play.

Hannah had earlier been convinced during an interview with Broadway legend Patti LuPone, that Adam would leave her because “Broadway is the most seductive of mistresses.” Hannah opens up to Adam about her new insecurity and he denounces her worries by telling her that she is the only girl he ever wants to be with. Melt. I don’t even find him attract but I melted away like the Wicked Witch of the West when I heard this line.

Hannah then asks Adam to act out lines from his play and after some momentary hesitation he recites a full monologue, in character, while lovingly swishing bubbles in her direction.

The camera pans out, the screen goes black, and all you here is Miguel’s voice sing “I don’t need a model, I don’t need a movie star.” It is perfect and captivating and elegant and reaffirms my love for Lena Dunham and new love for Miguel.

Below is a video of the song I retrieved from Youtube. I do not own the rights to the song but simply would like to share the simplicity and beautiful melody with all those who are willing to listen.

The lyrics perfectly capture the essence of the scene by reiterating to the audience that neither Hannah or Adam cares about fame or money, they care about having good times together and they love they share for one another. That’s it. The simple things.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Around the House

Today I took some pictures of areas inside my house. I thought it would be interesting to capture the essence of different areas around the house so I took pictures in my living room, backyard, and my room. There are quite a few quite little areas that are often overlooked so it was especially fun to capture them on camera. I hope you enjoy the photos and have a lovely day!

Judge Less, Love More

Hey, everyone!

I hope you are having a lovely Wednesday!

I wanted to write a blog post about something that I have noticed occurring for far to long and far to often in our culture and that is shamming.

Pretty much I have noticed (and I know I’m not the only one) that most specifically in America, through the help of the media and the internet, we have created this weird virus that has infected many of our citizens in which we openly judge, bash, criticize, threaten, and sham many people for being different and expressing themselves in a way that some may find strange, degrading, or inappropriate. For Example: Miley Cyrus, Duke University Student Porn Star, LGBT community, and every single public figure pretty figure.

As one of my New Year’s Resolutions I decided that I was going to be less judgmental and listen before I take a side on an issue. Hear the other side of a situation before I make up my mind about a matter. Well I have thought long and hard about this one and I have concluded that many Americans whether it be online or in person, are constantly judging others and telling men and women how they should behave and live their lives. It honestly makes me sick.

Anytime a public figure or just the average joe does something different, artistic, creative, or just out of the ordinary it seems like every talk show has to make it their feature segment that day and shame and criticize that person for making a mistake. It happens ever single day and all of a sudden the general public has this opinion about someone they don’t even know. It really diminishes creativity because many people feel scared to express who they are for fear of later being mocked.

I don’t blame the public so much as I blame the media for this. The media exploits these people very often so that they can gain a larger audience and make more money. It is so gross and has created this absolutely sickening group think generation of people who judge, mock, shame, and criticize others for living their lives, being creative, trying new things, making mistakes, and choosing to be different opposed to fit into this cookie cutter mold of how a large majority of the America audience thinks a twenty something should behave.

I applaud those who are brave enough to wave their freak flag and shout from the rooftops, “I’m a weirdo, here me roar.” We need more of those people.

Why do we need to follow these rules of how to be and behave? Because it makes the moms of America comfortable? Because otherwise people will think you’re a slut? One of the worst parts is that those who chose to criticize others often act as though they have never made a mistake in their lives. Time and time again I see and hear comments from men and women on television and online talking complete trash about whomever is the hot topic at the moment as though they themselves have never once done anything taboo.

This happens more often with women, in my opinion, than with men. Women judge the shit out of other women. Constantly. They judge another women by whats she’s wear, her weight, her job, her spouse, her friends, her children, her everything. They may not even know this women but pick at every detail of her life until their is nothing left.

It absolutely has to stop. The bashing and criticism only divides us. We drift further and further away from unity as a nation with every media sponsored public shaming of a pop star, porn star, politician, or pupil. It will end when people one by one decide to take responsibility for the things they say and realize that those that they are judging are humans and trying new things, making mistakes, and simply just being themselves.

I encourage everyone to try to do a little less judging and a little more loving. One of my favorite Youtubers Tanya Burr posted a tweet yesterday that really spoke to me. She wrote, “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” Everyone is just trying to figure out what they are doing with their lives on their own and it makes it a hell of a lot harder when people they don’t even know bash them for doing things a little differently. Why not just let people figure it out on their own and go about your day?

I am as liberal as they come. I believe that people should be allowed to do whatever they want as long as they are not hurting themselves or anyone else. You of course do not have to agree with me or even come close to believing what I believe in but I invite everyone to take a step back and have a more open mind. Just because someone would rather dress more sexual than causal, or chooses to do porn opposed to work in an office, or is attracted to someone of the same sex opposed to the opposite sex does not mean that they are evil or any less human than anyone else.

(I do realize that this has become random rant and in some areas I am judging a group of the population but that is for the greater good and some pieces of this argument do make sense and hopefully will help at least one person).

Let’s work together to create a more loving and open minded planet for everyone by simply just being a little more kind and accepting and not letting the media seduce you with their one sided propaganda. Decide for yourself.

With Love,

Meet My Puppies!

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to make a post about my dogs because for some reason although they are adorable they are not featured on social media very often. Below are some pictures of them that I hope brighten your day! The smallest little pup is Lulu, who was named by my little sister not me. She is about the size of a guinea pig and was the runt of the litter. Bolt is the little guy that looks like her but is a bit bigger. They are biological brother and sister and they were a part of a litter of 5. They are about 5 months old and a Maltese and Shih Tzu mix which we call a Shihtese. Not sure if that is the appropriate name but it works.

The blonde beauty is Star. She is a Cocker Spaniel and Papillon mix. We adopted her last year from the pound and she is the leader of the pack and the most hyper.

It is pretty surprising that we have 3 dogs in my family considering the fact that I didn’t grow up with any dogs but my little sister is much more persuasive than I am and thankfully so because our dogs are an absolute delight!

Nothing Better Than a Little Human Compassion :)

Hello, everyone!

I hope you all are having a joyous Friday!

So I was scrolling through my Facebook news feed and I came across an amazing video that one of my friends posted.

It is a video of a young boy, sitting on a bus stop bench in Norway, in the freezing cold, without a jacket. The young boy is sitting on the bench as part of an experiment conducted by the Norwegian Branch of the SOS Children’s Villages International Charity. The experiment is part of a campaign to provide warm clothing to displaced children in Syria and hidden cameras were placed at the screen to capture how strangers would react.

The video truly warmed my heart and showed the immense amount of compassion that we all have for people we don’t even know. I am so happy that the SOS Children’s Villages International Charity conducted this experiment and chose to share it with the world. I hope that after viewing it you feel inspired to do something kind for someone else. The smallest, simplest deed like taking off your jacket, can make an enormous impact on someone else’s life and in turn make the world a better place which I believe is what we all want, right?!

I have posted the video along with the link to the SOS Children’s Villages International Charity and the link to the website where I found the article below.

My Sister’s 20th Birthday Dinner!

Hello All,

On President’s Day my sister Shawnie turned, 20! It was a miracle that she has made it this far given her antics so we had to go out for a family dinner at Red Robin! We have been going there for each of our birthday’s since we were little and Red Robin Mascot would come to your table and sing to you.

Here are a few pictures from the evening. There are not too many as I was asked/forced by my sister to put away my camera because I am “embarrassing!” But, I managed to get a few good ones!

Happy birthday, Shawnie!

(my youngest sister kayla has a very unique style)

I hope you all have a lovely day!
